Confidentiality
All material discussed with clients in counselling sessions is entirely confidential. In order to maintain and enhance good practice, counsellors and psychotherapists are required by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Code of Ethics and Practice to receive independent supervision or consultative support on a regular basis.
There may be circumstances in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics and Practice in which I might have to discuss further with clients the possibility of confidentiality. This is very rare.
For example, it would be necessary to extend confidentiality if a client indicated a risk of harm to him/herself or others. The situation would be discussed with the client in the first instance. Then, if necessary, further professional guidance would be sought.
